Progression not Regression

I was watching The O'Reilly Factor last night when Bill interviewed General Wesley Clark. Bill brang up the point that some politicians and activists are calling for the public disclosure of more photographs of abuse and torture by US forces in Iraq. Bill does not want the photographs released, and it seems he would rather make believe the debacle never happened, he would like to never acknowledge the facts. Clark lends us to believe that the photographs should be released in a effort of accountability, because of course this is not what the US Military is about. O'Reilly is reduced to searching for examples from past wars to justify the abuse in Iraq. Vietnam? Hordes of atrocities, but committed by a drafted army and not approved and encouraged by the Chain of Command. And then the gem of this whole interview, he cites a example from the History of WW2, except it seems he doesn't know his history. O'Reilly barks "General, you need to look at the Malmady (ph) massacre in World War II". Well maybe we all should, in fact the Massacre at Malmady had nothing to do with American Soldiers committing abuse or torture, it was an event where Nazi Soldiers committed such atrocities.

Good Job Bill, confusing American soldiers with Nazis.

Does President Bush ever talk to his generals?

This past week General Casey, General Abizaid, and Sec. Of Defense Donald Rumsfeld met with members of Senate to discuss the situation in Iraq. The situation in Iraq it seems has become such a problem, that Republican senators have become the ones who fire harsh questions about the legitimacy of our mission, the possibility of success, and the competence of the administration in handling the war.

Our President and the administration has been telling us that everything is going as planned in Iraq. Last May Vice President Dick Cheney declared that the insurgency in Iraq was in its "Last throes". This week General Casey declared that the insurgency is strong and it is a fight we will be fighting for some time. President Bush realized that Americans were beginning to see the cost of American life in Iraq wasn't worth fighting this war, so he declared that the Iraqi people are taking a step to defend their country. But whats this? There is only one...That's right...One fucking battalion out of the entire Iraqi Army that is fully trained, equipped and ready for battle. Next we face the fact that the new constitution was rushed and has not only not solved differences between Shiites, Kurds, and Sunnis; but it has increased and cemented those divisions.

Iraq is on the verge of civil war, The Bush administration is blind and ignorant to the reality of the War. The American people are coming around, as is Congress. Bush's numbers are lower than any other second term president besides Nixon, and the Leader of the Republican House has been indicted on multiple counts and removed as Majority Leader. Things do not look good for republicans and they are holding onto the philosophy that this war will become a success and save them. In the process they are losing more power, credibility, money, and American lives.
